US President Joe Biden, in response to the drone attack that claimed the lives of three American soldiers in Jordan, revealed on Tuesday that he has made a decision on the course of action. The attack, with suspected ties to Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah, intensified pressure on addressing Iran's influence in the Middle East amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict. Biden, after extensive consultations with White House advisors, hinted at a tiered approach without specifying details.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby acknowledged the likelihood of multiple actions, stating, "It's fair for you to expect that we will respond in an appropriate fashion." Biden affirmed he does not seek a broader Middle East conflict. He held Iran responsible for supplying weapons to the attackers. The Pentagon is actively assessing response options to the Jordan attack, emphasizing a cautious approach.

In an unexpected development, Kataib Hezbollah declared the "suspension of military and security operations" to avoid embarrassment for the Iraqi government. This decision follows attacks by Iraqi militias, straining Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's delicate balancing act between Iran-aligned factions and maintaining ties with the US.

President Biden personally spoke with the soldiers' families, expressing condolences and assuring full assistance. The dignified transfer of remains is scheduled at Dover Air Force Base, with Biden attending the ceremony. The Pentagon identified the fallen soldiers as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett.

Notably, this attack marks the first US military fatalities in the Middle East since the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted. With a total of 166 attacks on US military installations, including 67 in Iraq and 98 in Syria, a challenging scenario emerges for retaliatory action without exacerbating the regional situation.

A preliminary report suggests a case of mistaken drone identity, with US forces possibly letting an enemy drone, linked to Iran-backed groups, pass unchallenged into a Jordanian base, leading to the tragic outcome. This adds complexity to the task of responding strategically without escalating tensions further.
