It is reported that Rajpura police have registered a case against BJP leader Harwinder Singh Harpalpur under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code for the death of one of the farmers, Surinder Pal Singh, aged 60 who died during the protest against BJP's Patiala Lok Sabha candidate Preneet Kaur on May 4th.

As Resham Singh's nephew had asserted in his complaint, the deceased was among a group of protesters who were trying to block off Kaur as part of their protest. However, Harpalpur and some unknown people started pushing them. Before the struggle ended, Surinder was already on the ground, his head splattered with blood. He was pronounced dead at the Rajpura Civil Hospital which was the story of his death.

FIR has been registered under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code against Harpalpur and two unidentified individuals.

The leader of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha Sarwan Singh Pandher has asked for the arrest of Harpalpur immediately and has also warned that the protesters will be assembled outside Preneet Kaur’s Patiala house on 8th May if there will be no action taken. Besides this, the farmers are demanding both compensation and a govt job for the family of Surinder Pal.

The incident comes in the middle of farmer protests against BJP candidates and leaders during the electoral campaign. Protesters made their presence felt by harassing BJP officials by pointing out their unfulfilled promises with black flags.
