Meta Platforms Inc. has unveiled AI-powered features for its apps, Instagram,Messenger, and WhatsApp, offering its 3 billion users experiences comparable to OpenAI's ChatGPT. These features include customized sticker creation, image editing, and a lineup of celebrity-faced chatbot characters infused with generative AI.
Furthermore, Meta introduced a developer studio, allowing brands to create their AI tools for customer interactions on the messaging platforms.
This announcement highlights Meta's commitment to AI technology, demonstrating its ability to create AI-based solutions for generating text and images based on user prompts. Meta's competitors, such as Google, Snap, and Microsoft, have already ventured into the AI space to meet the growing interest of the public and investors.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized that Meta has been working on AI technology for years, marking the first time generative AI-focused consumer services have taken center stage at the company's annual Connect developers conference. In the past, Connect had focused on the metaverse and virtual reality.
Meta's AI offerings include the Meta AI chatbot, which runs on the Llama 2 language model in collaboration with Microsoft's Bing. It acts as a digital assistant, answering real-time questions and generating images based on user requests. Additionally, Meta is launching 28 fantasy character-based bots featuring video reactions from celebrities like Tom Brady and Snoop Dogg. Users can also expect an AI image editor allowing text prompts to modify images.
Alongside these AI innovations, Meta unveiled the Quest 3 headset, offering users a seamless transition between virtual reality and mixed reality experiences.
