Landslide in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda District Claims Two Lives

Doda, Jammu and Kashmir - A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday morning as a landslide struck a bus near Bhanghroo Gandoh village in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. The landslide resulted in the loss of two lives, while two others sustained injuries. Prompt action was taken by authorities who swiftly launched a rescue operation to save those affected.


The accident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM, catching the bus off-guard while it was en route from Gawari village in Doda district to Gandoh in Jammu. As news of the incident spread, emergency services were deployed to the scene. All four individuals trapped in the landslide were successfully rescued and immediately rushed to the Gandoh Sub District Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Tragically, despite the efforts made to save their lives, two of the victims succumbed to their injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The deceased individuals have been identified as Amit Sohail from Kahara, Doda, and Mudasir Ali from Halore Changa, according to officials cited by news agency ANI.


Vishesh Mahajan, the District Commissioner of Doda, expressed his condolences and provided an update on the situation, stating, "Two persons who were brought to the hospital were declared dead on arrival. Two other persons are undergoing treatment."


Meanwhile, the aftermath of heavy overnight rainfall wreaked havoc on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the Mughal Road, disrupting vital traffic and connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of the country. Multiple landslides occurred in various areas of Ramban, including Mehar, Cafeteria Morh, Keela Morh, Sita Ram Passi, and Panthiyal. One section of road near the Panthiyal tunnel suffered significant damage due to the landslides. Additionally, landslides near Rata Chambh in Poonch affected the Mughal Road, which connects Poonch and Rajouri districts with Shopian.

Efforts are currently underway to clear the roads and restore normal traffic flow. However, due to the severity of the situation, train services between Banihal and Qazigund stations have been suspended for the day, and authorities have advised against travel until the restoration work is completed. The inclement weather is expected to persist until Sunday.
