A 41-year-old woman was fatally injured on Sunday, as she fell more than 60 feet from a high-speed zip line attraction in the Italian Alps, authorities disclosed.

Ghizlane Moutahir was nearing the end of the 750-meter (2,460-foot) zip line course over the scenic Bitto Valley in Lombardy when her safety harness failed around 12:40, making her fall into the bottom of the metro.

The teams of mountain rescue and firefighters on the spot immediately responded but Moutahir died from the fall, as Italian media reports said. An investigation is now in progress to identify the reason for this fatal accident.

The zip line provided by Fly Emotion can travel at speeds of up to 120 kph (75 mph) through the valley near the town of Albaredo. The famously acclaimed tourist spot by telling people that "you are flying like an eagle" but at the same time, the whole thing is securely tied around you.

"We still don't have an idea of what may have happened. " Matteo Sanguineti, the CEO of Fly Emotion, told the Italian media. "I am dismayed and speechless. "

Sanguineti stated that about 200 thousand people have zip-lined this scenic ride without any incident except for Sunday. He condoled with Moutahir's family.

Some of the people who have tried zip lining before expressed their horror on social media only after this fatal accident took place. "I got chills when I read about what happened.  . .  waiting anxiously to hear what will come from the investigation," someone tweeted.
