In an unsettling turn of events, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, the Indian Ambassador, faced disruption during his visit to a New York gurdwara. The Sikhs of America swiftly condemned this incident, stressing the sanctity of religious spaces and calling for robust actions against such disruptions.

Khalistani supporters, known for their extremist views, attempted to heckle Sandhu by referencing controversial figures, prompting the Sikh community members to escort them out of the gurdwara's premises. Sikhs of America, in a joint statement, demanded decisive actions from the gurdwara management to ensure the community's peaceful access to these places of worship.

Sandhu, accompanied by other Indian officials, had visited the gurdwara for prayer and was honored by the management with Saropa Sahib. However, the tranquility was disrupted by a few disruptors who violated the sanctity of the gurdwara, prompting strong condemnation from Sikhs of America, a prominent Sikh organization in the US.

This incident is part of a concerning trend, with rising Khalistani activities globally. The recent surge in extremist activities in countries like Canada, the UK, the US, and Australia has heightened tensions. Prior incidents, such as an arson attack on the Indian consulate in San Francisco and the heckling of Indian envoys, underscore the urgency for preventive measures against such disruptions.

Sandhu's experience aligns with the challenges faced by Indian envoys abroad. Vikram Doraiswami, Indian High Commissioner to the UK, also encountered resistance from Khalistani supporters at a gurdwara in Glasgow, Scotland, emphasizing the global nature of this issue.
