India's Cricket Board, BCCI, has initiated planning for the forthcoming T20 World Cup2024 following the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Indian team, known as the Men in Blue, currently engaged in a home series against Australia, will soon travel to South Africa for a comprehensive series encompassing three T20Is. As part of workload management and prioritizing formats, BCCI unveiled three different captains for India's squads.

Rohit Sharma, leading the Test squad, requested a hiatus from white-ball matches. Speculations arise concerning his potential captaincy for the T20 World Cup, with Hardik Pandya also considered. A BCCI insider shared insights, stating that Rohit could lead the T20 team if he agrees.

According to a PTI quote from the BCCI source, Rohit is currently on vacation in the UK, seeking an extended rest after the exhaustive season till the World Cup's conclusion. However, if he consents to lead, his respect for the team will see him take charge.

Amidst Rohit and Virat Kohli's break requests from white-ball cricket, BCCI confirmed KL Rahul as ODI captain for the South Africa tour, which marks the return of Sanju Samson and Axar Patel. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav, excluded from the ODI squad, assumes leadership for the T20I series against South Africa due to Rohit's absence.

With Rohit's break and Hardik Pandya's injury sidelining him since the 2023 World Cup, Suryakumar Yadav shoulders captaincy responsibilities. The South Africa series commences on December 10, commencing with a T20I series, revealing India's evolving leadership strategies.
