In a significant development, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma is slated to assume office as Mizoram's new Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony for Lalduhoma and eleven other leaders is scheduled to take place today at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath of office and secrecy.

Weather permitting, the ceremony will occur at the Raj Bhavan complex; however, contingency plans are in place to relocate to the assembly's annex building if weather conditions are unfavorable. Incidentally, the state capital experienced rainfall earlier in the day, potentially impacting the ceremony's venue.

Lalduhoma, an erstwhile IPS officer with a history of serving as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's security in charge, held strategic meetings with newly elected party candidates to deliberate on forming the council of ministers and portfolio allocations.

Following consultations, Lalduhoma was elected as the ZPM Legislature Party leader, with K Sapdanga chosen as the deputy leader during discussions among the party's Val Upa Council, an advisory body. These deliberations centered on crucial decisions regarding the Council of ministers' composition.

Lalduhoma, emphasizing the significance of robust relations with the Union government, met Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati earlier in the week to stake a claim to form the government, expressing contentment with ZPM's electoral success in clinching a majority in the state assembly.

The ZPM's landslide victory in the assembly elections, securing 27 out of 40 seats, marks a notable political shift, unseating the incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF), which secured only 10 seats. The BJP obtained two seats, while the Congress managed just one, following polling on November 7, witnessing a significant voter turnout of over 82%.

This political transition in Mizoram signals a significant shift in governance, bringing forth expectations of change and fresh policies under Lalduhoma's leadership.
