Thousands of years ago, the southern part of India flourished with a powerful kingdom known as the Kingdom of Kosala, with Ayodhya as its capital. In the inaugural part of the Ramayana Series, we explore the roots of Ayodhya, situated on the serene banks of the Sarayu River.

The Royal Lineage of Ayodhya

The wise and powerful King Dhasaratha ruled Ayodhya. However, despite his might, the king faced the dilemma of not having an heir. Following Rishi Vasishtha's counsel, Dhasaratha conducted a sacred prayer. In a divine encounter, a god appeared with a pot of nectar, instructing the king to share it with his queens. Consequently, Queen Kausalya bore Ram, Queen Kaikeyi birthed Bharat, and Queen Sumitra had twin boys, Lakshman and Shatrugan.

The Battle With The Demon Tadaka

Sage Vishwamitra, known for his stern temperament, sought the aid of Ayodhya's princes to battle demons Maricha and Subahu. En route, the duo faced the fierce demoness Tadaka. Ram and Lakshman, with their exceptional skills, defeated her, liberating the forest from her terror. The tale leaves listeners curious about the fate of the other two demons.
