Mukesh Singh, the ADGP of Jammu Zone, has affirmed that an encounter has commenced in the Kandi forest region.

On Friday morning, terrorists triggered an explosive device during an encounter with security forces in the Kandi area of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the death of five Indian Army soldiers and injuries to four others, including an officer. Army officials revealed that the terrorists responsible for the attack are believed to be the same group that ambushed an army truck on April 20, killing five soldiers and injuring one.

The Indian Army believes the same group of terrorists is responsible for another attack that occurred on April 20.

A joint operation was launched after specific information was received about the presence of terrorists in the Kandi forest in the Rajouri sector. A search team established contact with a group of terrorists who were hiding in a cave. The area is heavily forested with rocky and steep cliffs, making it difficult to navigate. According to the Indian Army, operations are still ongoing.

After the encounter with the terrorists in the Kandi area of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, the injured soldiers, including an officer, were swiftly transported to the Command hospital in Udhampur.

Furthermore, additional teams from the nearby areas have been dispatched to the site of the encounter. Initial reports suggest that a group of terrorists has been trapped in the area, and there is a strong possibility of significant casualties among the terrorists. Meanwhile, mobile internet services have been suspended in the Rajouri district, as confirmed by officials.

In another incident on Thursday, suspected terrorists opened fire on security forces in the Bijbhera area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district, injuring one police officer. The Jammu and Kashmir police have cordoned off the area in an attempt to apprehend the attackers.

Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been a persistent problem for many years, with frequent attacks on security forces and civilians alike. The Indian government has taken various measures to combat terrorism in the region, including increasing troop presence, improving intelligence gathering, and introducing new laws to tackle terrorism.

Despite these efforts, the problem persists, and attacks like the one on Friday serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups operating in the region. The loss of lives is a tragedy, and efforts must continue to bring an end to the cycle of violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
