As India commemorates Hindi Diwas on September 14th, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah extended his warm greetings and emphasized the pivotal role of the Hindi language in uniting the nation.

Shah declared that Hindi, as the official language of the Union of India, has no competition with other Indian languages; instead, it serves as a medium to empower and promote regional languages, contributing to a culturally rich and stronger India.

In a video message shared on social media, Amit Shah underscored the historical significance of Hindi during the country's struggle for independence. He noted that Hindi played a crucial role in fostering unity among a diverse population divided by numerous languages and dialects.

"Hindi, as a language of communication, played an important role in carrying forward the freedom struggle from East to West and North to South in the country," Shah stated. The architects of the Indian Constitution recognized this significance and officially declared Hindi as the country's official language on September 14, 1949.

Shah emphasized that all Indian languages and dialects are a treasure trove of cultural heritage that must be preserved and cherished. He assured that Hindi does not compete with other Indian languages and expressed his belief that by strengthening all regional languages, a resilient and united nation can be built.

Hindi Diwas is celebrated annually on September 14th to honor the Hindi language's official status in the Union of India. It was first declared by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, became the official language alongside English on January 26, 1950, with the aim of streamlining government operations in a multilingual nation.

Furthermore, Shah highlighted the efforts of the Department of Official Language under the Ministry of Home Affairs to modernize and enrich Indian languages for public administration, education, and scientific use.

He mentioned the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, which reviews the progress of Hindi's use in government work across the country and presents its findings to the President. Additionally, initiatives like Town Official Language Implementation Committees and promoting Hindi in foreign countries, including within the United Nations, showcase India's commitment to the language's promotion.

The Department of Official Language also initiated the 'All India Official Language Conference,' further emphasizing the government's dedication to language enrichment. The conference's third edition is scheduled to be held in Pune this year.
