A passenger onboard an IndiGo flight, identified as Biswajit Debnath, was arrested after attempting to open the emergency exit mid-air.
The incident occurred on flight 6E-457, which was en route from Guwahati to Agartala with 180 passengers on board.
The passenger was seated next to the emergency exit and made repeated attempts to open it while the flight was in mid-air. Another passenger seated nearby tried to intervene, but the man persisted in his efforts.
Flight attendants also rushed to stop him, and panic ensued among the passengers.
A video capturing the incident quickly went viral on social media, drawing attention to the alarming situation.
Upon landing in Agartala, Biswajit Debnath was promptly arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that he was under the influence of narcotic tablets during the flight.
This incident follows another similar one the day before, where a passenger onboard a Chennai-bound IndiGo flight attempted to open the emergency door.
The passenger, identified as Manikandan, was handed over to officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) upon arrival at Chennai airport.
Both incidents highlight the importance of airline staff and vigilant passengers in ensuring the safety and security of flights, particularly in situations involving the misuse of emergency exits.
