The Intense rain in Manhattan and Brooklyn slowed down a bit on Friday morning, but more heavy rain is expected in the afternoon, which could cause more flooding. The Mayor, Eric Adams, said it’s still very dangerous and not over yet. Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley, advising people to stay home due to risky travel conditions.

Governor Hochul emphasized that the weather is extremely challenging and life-threatening, urging all New Yorkers to take it seriously for their safety. Floodwater caused chaos in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Hoboken, New Jersey, leading to road closures and water rescues. Flight delays affected all three New York City airports, with flooding closing the historic Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia airport. A travel advisory is in place for New York City until 6 am Saturday, and the flood threat extends to around 25 million people in the Northeast. The heavy rain will move north and east, impacting southern New England, with Connecticut facing the heaviest rainfall and flash flood warnings.
