Monsoon Rains Trigger Landslides and Road Blockages in Jammu and Kashmir, Raising Flash Flood Concerns

Officials reported that the Monday morning deluge triggered landslides and shooting stones, leading to the closure of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Mehad and Seri areas in the Ramban district. Ongoing rain has hampered road clearance efforts, resulting in a temporary ban on travel to Ramban, Jammu, and Srinagar.

In anticipation of flash floods in rivers and rivulets, the district magistrate of Ramban, Mussarat Islam, has ordered the closure of all government and private schools up to the secondary level throughout the district.

The traffic police have issued an advisory, stating that the Jammu-Srinagar national highway remains inaccessible due to the blockage.

Furthermore, the Mughal Road has also been rendered impassable by a landslide at Harikatha. Commuters are strongly advised against using NH-44 and the Mughal Road until restoration work is completed.
