In a recent operation in the Chenani area of Udhampur District, Jammu and Kashmir, the Udhampur forest division has successfully seized a substantial cache of illegal timber, totaling 185.817 cubic feet. This operation led to the arrest of two individuals and the suspension of two forest department officials.

The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Udhampur, Rushal Garg, revealed that they received specific information about illegal timber stockpiling in the area. Following the tip-off, a raid was conducted at the residence of Jaipati Varman, a West Bengal resident who was subsequently apprehended.

During the course of the operation, it became clear that Jaipati Varman had secretly amassed 187 pieces of Kail timber from the Dudu Range's Beat Gharrian-II. The premises also contained two mechanical tabletop cutters in addition to the timber.

The confiscated timber's estimated value has brought attention to the persistent problem of illegal deforestation in the area. To learn more about the scope of the illegal timber trade and the parties involved, the forest department has begun conducting additional investigations.

Two forest service employees have been put on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation into this incident. The DFO office in Udhampur now has the in-charge Beat Guard from the forest department and the in-charge Block officer from Gharrian working under them.

The delicate ecosystems of Jammu and Kashmir are even more in need of protection and preservation in light of this catastrophe. To protect the region's natural resources and ecology, the authorities have pledged to take more measures as the inquiry progresses.
