In Mumbai, the iconic ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, aged 72, bid farewell to the mortal world following a prolonged illness. The revered vocalist, a recipient of the Padma Shri award, breathed his last in Mumbai at 11 a.m. on February 26. His demise occurred at the Mumbai Breach Candy Hospital. The news of his passing was conveyed to his admirers by a family member through Instagram.

Today marks the day of Pankaj Udhas' last rites. His mortal remains will be accorded the last darshan at his residence before being taken to Worli for cremation between 3 to 5 p.m. Noteworthy figures from the film industry and political spheres are expected to pay their final respects to the departed singer. Additionally, Pankaj Udhas will receive state honors as a part of his final farewell. Among those present to bid him adieu is his brother, Manhar Udhas.

His father, Manohar Udhas, was a renowned folk singer, while his elder brother, Nirmal Udhas, also made his mark as a ghazal singer. Pankaj Udhas' musical journey began in the early 1970s, reaching new heights with his debut album "Aahat" in 1980. His soul-stirring renditions, including classics like "Chitthi Aayi Hai" and "Chandi Jaisa Rang Tera," earned him widespread acclaim and a place in the hearts of millions.
