New Delhi, Apr 29: Delhi Police has sent a summons to Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy for May 1st in the matter related to a doctored video of Union home minister Amit Shah, authorities said on Sunday. The policemen have also requested Reddy to bring his electronic gadgets as part of the investigation.

The new development happened after Delhi Police's Special Cell registered an FIR following a complaint from I4C, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, which is under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The complaint refers to an altered video of Amit Shah in which his statements regarding a plan to remove reservations for Muslim people in Telangana were reportedly manipulated to show him supporting the total abolition of reservations.

In the original video, Shah was delivering a public speech in Telangana prior to the state assembly polls. He had mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would conduct an audit of the reservations for Muslims if the party would win power in the state.

Meanwhile, a maneuvered version of the video started to circulate around the social media sphere, which led to massive indignation and condemnation of the BJP as anti-reservation.

Delhi police has initiated an investigation into the matter and the summons to the Telangana Chief Minister is viewed as a great deal in the proceedings. As Reddy is a long-time critic of BJP, he accuses the party of trying to polarize voters on the basis of religion.

The case has brought a political scandal, with opposition parties saying that the BJP government is trying to suppress freedom of speech and criticism. As for the ruling party, they have stood firmly behind the constitutional provisions for reservations and have rhetorically denounced their opponents as unscrupulous propagandists.

The involvement of the Chief Minister of Telangana by the Delhi Police is one of the latest developments in the stiff competition between the BJP and its rivals. The investigation and its result without a doubt will have a great influence on the upcoming presidential elections of 2024.
