In the wake of ongoing farmer protests, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has announced plans for a significant gathering, titled "Kisan Mazdoor Mahapanchayat," set to take place at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan. This event is scheduled for Thursday, with preparations underway to accommodate the influx of attendees.

According to an official statement released by the SKM, the maha panchayat aims to rally thousands of farmers, agricultural workers, and rural residents toward Delhi to voice their concerns. The umbrella organization representing various farmers' groups intends to pass a resolution during the gathering, signaling a united stance against government policies perceived as detrimental to their interests.

To facilitate the event, the SKM has secured clearance from the Delhi Police, along with assurances for essential amenities such as parking space, water facilities, toilets, and ambulance services, coordinated in collaboration with the municipal administration of Delhi.

However, the police have imposed certain restrictions on the gathering. Notably, a cap of 5,000 participants has been set, with strict instructions barring the presence of tractor-trolleys near the venue. Moreover, elaborate security measures have been put in place, prompting concerns about potential traffic congestion in the national capital on the day of the mahapanchayat.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (central), M Harsha Vardhan, emphasized the importance of adhering to the agreed-upon terms, urging the organizers to ensure compliance with regulations. Participants have been instructed to refrain from carrying weapons and to avoid initiating marches within Delhi.

Additionally, farmers have been directed to conclude the proceedings promptly, with an expected wrap-up by 2.30 pm, as per the undertaking provided to law enforcement authorities. The police express hope that the SKM leadership will cooperate in maintaining order and adhering to the stipulated guidelines.

This event comes amidst ongoing protests by farmers demanding legislative guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP) and the retraction of legal actions against demonstrators involved in previous agitations. Despite recent negotiations with government representatives, including proposals for MSP assurance on select crops, farmers remain steadfast in their demands, sustaining their protest activities at border points surrounding Delhi.
