The high-stakes meeting of the INDIA Bloc, a pivotal alliance gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections, is currently underway at Delhi's Ashoka Hotel. This summit holds immense significance as strategies to counter the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Narendra Modi, take center stage. The foremost agenda revolves around seat-sharing among the alliance members, especially key regional parties such as AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal, SP led by Akhilesh Yadav, and TMC headed by Mamata Banerjee.

Noteworthy leaders attending this decisive meeting include Mamata Banerjee, MK Stalin, Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad, and Uddhav Thackeray, amongst others. The deliberations highlight the necessity for flexibility from Congress on seat allocations, although the party's stance remains undisclosed.

In a statement capturing the essence of the discussions, Uddhav Thackeray remarked, "There are 27 horses but no charioteer." Mamata Banerjee expressed openness towards engaging with Congress despite their limited seats, stressing the significance of negotiations on seat-sharing.

Meanwhile, the bloc's perspective on various states indicates a keen interest in forging alliances and securing a direct contest against the BJP. For instance, in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress sees potential in collaborating with BSP, while in Kerala, the focal battle seems to be between the Congress and the Left parties.

The urgency of resolving seat-sharing formulas echoes among bloc members, expressing discontent over delayed resolutions. Previous postponements have led to concerns over timing, with leaders emphasizing the need for swift decisions.

Mamata Banerjee's recent statement about deferring the selection of a prime ministerial candidate until after the 2024 polls underscores the alliance's priority to iron out internal issues and present a united front against the ruling party.

In the lead-up to the Delhi summit, interactions between key leaders, such as Kejriwal's meetings with Mamata Banerjee and Uddhav Thackeray, hint at the collaborative efforts to strengthen the alliance's stance.

Additionally, CPI(ML) Liberation's Dipankar Bhattacharya highlighted the coalition's array of clean and competent leaders, emphasizing their collective aim to displace the BJP from power.
