Gujarat's performance, which was excellent throughout the game, was 143-8 because they were unable to match Chennai's pace-dominated strategy. This was the next sensible move after the host team scored 206–6, making superb use of the circumstances.

Impact player Sai Sudharsan amassed 37 runs off of 31 balls, but Chennai held on to some superb deep catches as the remaining Gujarat batters found it difficult to establish partnerships.

In the third over of a thrilling chase, Captain Shubman Gill was out plumb leg before wicket after hitting Deepak Chahar (228) over the boundary and scoring eight runs off five balls. Chahar was not a factor anymore.

David Miller was dismissed for 21 by Ajinkya Rahane's exquisite over deep mid wicket ball, while Vijay Shankar was removed by Mahendra Singh Dhoni's amazing diving catch to his right. Just before the competition started, Dhoni gave Ruturaj Gaikwad the captaincy, which resulted in both of these dismissals.

Chennai's incredible performance was capped off by three deep catches from Rachin Ravindra. Conversely, fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman (2-30) and Tushar Deshpande (2-21) were consistently scoring runs.
