Amidst escalating family tensions, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Sita Soren has tendered her resignation, marking a significant development in the political landscape of Jharkhand. Sita, who is the sister-in-law of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, took this decision ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections.

The resignation of Sita Soren from JMM underscores the deepening divide within the Soren family, which has been brewing for the past few months. Reports suggest that differences have been simmering within the family, particularly regarding the succession of leadership within the party.

Earlier, in January, Sita Soren, widow of former CM Shibu Soren's elder son Durga, had publicly voiced her opposition to any attempt to elevate Hemant Soren's wife Kalpana to the position of state Chief Minister. This objection arose amid speculations that Kalpana would be the frontrunner for the Chief Ministerial role if Hemant Soren faced legal repercussions, particularly from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding a money laundering case.

Following Hemant Soren's arrest in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam, senior JMM leader Champai Soren assumed the role of Chief Minister of Jharkhand. The 67-year-old tribal leader took oath as the 12th Chief Minister of the state on February 2nd.

Hemant Soren's arrest has further exacerbated the political turmoil in Jharkhand. The Enforcement Directorate's investigation into the alleged land scam unearthed substantial evidence, including cash exceeding Rs 36 lakh, purportedly linked to the JMM chief.

Sita Soren's departure from JMM adds a new dimension to the unfolding political drama in Jharkhand, setting the stage for a contentious battle ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The resignation underscores the complexities and power dynamics within the Soren family and the broader political landscape of the state.
