ADR Report: Electoral Trusts Contributed Over Rs 250 Crore to BJP in 2022-23

The ADR report highlights political party funding from electoral trusts in 2022-23, revealing significant contributions. BJP received Rs 259.08 crore, constituting 70.69% of total trust donations, while BRS secured Rs 90 crore (24.56%). In the fiscal year 2022-23, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) unveiled staggering insights into political funding via electoral trusts. A significant revelation emerged, showcasing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the primary beneficiary, amassing a substantial Rs 259.08 crore. This constituted a massive 70.69% of the total trust donations disbursed to political entities.

Contrarily, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) secured a notable Rs 90 crore, encompassing 24.56% of the overall donations from these trusts. Further scrutiny of the ADR report highlighted the diversified sources of these contributions. Corporate entities and business houses played a pivotal role, collectively pouring over Rs 363 crore into electoral trusts.

The Prudent Electoral Trust, a prominent player, directed substantial funds, contributing a substantial Rs 256.25 crore to the BJP. However, this amount represented a decline from the previous fiscal year's contribution of Rs 336.50 crore. Additionally, the Samaj Electoral Trust showcased its involvement by donating Rs 1.50 crore to the BJP in 2022-23.

The distribution of contributions revealed a multifaceted landscape. While the BJP and BRS dominated the lion's share, smaller political entities like the YSR Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Congress collectively received Rs 17.40 crore. Notably, the Samaj Electoral Trust directed Rs 50 lakh to the Congress.

Moreover, the Prudent Electoral Trust showcased diverse interests by extending contributions to multiple parties, encompassing the BJP, BRS, YSR Congress, and AAP. This intricate web of financial support delineates a landscape where electoral trusts wield substantial influence, particularly concerning major political entities.
