Ahead of its scheduled release in July 2023, Pushpendra Singh's directorial venture, 'Ajmer 92,' has already sparked controversy. The film delves into the haunting gangrape case that unfolded in the city over three decades ago, shining a light on the grim events and the manipulation of vulnerable girls by influential figures in Rajasthan's Ajmer in 1992. With a narrative that encapsulates the tragic suicides of multiple underage victims, the film unveils the ensuing panic and widespread hysteria that gripped the community.

The genesis of the 'Ajmer 92' film traces back to a scandalous series of events that unfolded in Ajmer in 1992, which came to light through a report published in the Hindi newspaper, 'Dainik Navjyoti.' As per available reports, Farooq and Nafis Chishti, belonging to the influential Khadim family responsible for the administration of the Ajmer Dargah, were at the helm of a group of young men involved in these abhorrent acts. Their appalling modus operandi involved gang-raping and blackmailing young women at a secluded farmhouse or bungalow, perpetuating a cycle of terror and exploitation.

According to reports, local authorities were allegedly aware of the events occurring for approximately a year prior but opted not to pursue legal action. Further investigations uncovered distressing details, as it was revealed that Farooq Chishti developed a friendship with a young girl from Sophia Senior Secondary School in Ajmer and exploited her by taking explicit photographs. Using coercion, he compelled her to introduce him to her fellow schoolmates. 'Dainik Navjyoti' reported a shocking number of victims, surpassing 250, aged between 11 and 20 years old.

In September 1992, court proceedings began, with charges filed against 18 individuals considered to be serial offenders. The initial trial involved eight defendants, who were reportedly sentenced to life imprisonment. However, in 2001, the Rajasthan High Court acquitted four of them. Subsequently, in 2007, a fast-track court in Ajmer convicted Farooq Chishti, but his release came in 2013 when the High Court determined that he had served his time in prison. The legal journey surrounding the case has been marked by various outcomes and decisions over the years.

The film features a talented ensemble cast including Manoj Joshi, Karan Verma, Rajesh Sharma, Zarina Wahab, Brijendra Kala, and Shalini Kapoor, who portray significant roles in this impactful story. Penned by Suraj Pal Rajak, Pushpendra Singh, and Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the film has courted controversy, with several Islamic organizations, including Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, calling for its ban. The film's controversial subject matter has sparked discussions and debates surrounding its release.
