Trump declares, "Testifies already, nothing more to say," cancel New York fraud trial appearance

Former President Donald Trump withdrew plans to testify a second time in his New York civil fraud trial. Trump stated he had already testified and had nothing more to add. This decision altered trial proceedings, surprising court officials and delaying the trial until further testimony resumed.

Former President Donald Trump declared he wouldn't testify again at his New York civil fraud trial, a day before his scheduled appearance. Trump claimed he had already given comprehensive testimony and had nothing further to add, prompting an unexpected turn in the trial.

New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that Trump exaggerated his wealth in financial documents for loans and deals. Trump, a key figure for the 2024 Republican nomination, was anticipated to return to the stand, but his abrupt decision disrupted the trial's anticipated course.

Trump's all-capital-letter statement on his Truth Social platform less than a day before his scheduled appearance conveyed his firm refusal to testify. His legal team had recently presented an accounting expert who found no evidence of accounting fraud in Trump's financial statements.

Trump's attorney, Christopher Kise, emphasized that Trump had already provided testimony and criticized the judge's imposition of a gag order. Eric Trump, Donald Trump's son, also canceled his appearance after Trump advised him to do so via social media.

This decision followed Trump's recent court appearance where an NYU professor defended Trump's financial statements. The trial is on hold until further testimony resumes, affecting the trial's timeline.

Attorney General Letitia James affirmed their case's strength regardless of Trump's decision, highlighting alleged financial fraud. The trial's judge, Arthur Engoron, has previously ruled against Trump, temporarily pausing a decision to take control of certain Trump properties.

Engoron continues to evaluate multiple claims, and the trial persists without a jury due to its nature. Trump's withdrawal altered the trial's dynamics, leaving the courtroom in suspense over its future course.
