In a horrifying incident near Khatima, Uttarakhand, the priest and 'sevadar' of Baba Bharamal temple faced a brutal beating, resulting in their untimely demise. The police swiftly arrested three individuals—Kalicharan, a former 'sevadar'; Rampal, an 'Aghori' baba; and Pawan, a notorious history-sheeter from Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. The double murder unfolded during the night of January 4 and 5, with the assailants reportedly pilfering cash and items from the sacred site.

Police investigations disclosed that Kalicharan and Rampal attended a temple-organized 'bhandara' (community kitchen) and remained on the premises after partaking. Consuming liquor later in the night, they clashed with Baba Harigiri, resulting in a scolding. Enraged, the duo left the premises, subsequently hatching a sinister plot to eliminate the priest. Pawan was roped into their plan, and on the fateful night, they launched a deadly attack.

Tragically, Rupa, a 'sevadar,' was killed when she rushed to protest against the assault. Another 'sevadar,' Nanhe, suffered injuries during the confrontation. The criminals made off with Rs 4,700 in cash, a mobile phone, and an internet dongle stolen from the priest.

The investigation proved challenging for the police, as the absence of CCTV cameras at the scene hindered the process. Additionally, the injured 'sevadar' Nanhe could not provide substantial information. Despite these obstacles, the police diligently interrogated over 1,200 individuals and scrutinized more than 1,000 cameras during the extensive investigation.
