Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) leader Lalduhoma is poised to become Mizoram's new Chief Minister in an upcoming ceremony. Eleven leaders are expected to take oath alongside Lalduhoma at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl. The event is contingent on favorable weather conditions.
Scheduled
at the Raj Bhavan complex, the oath-taking ceremony for Lalduhoma's Chief
Ministerial inauguration awaits clear weather. However, contingency plans are
in place to shift the event to the assembly's annex building if weather
conditions are unfavorable due to recent rainfall in the state capital.
As
the designated Chief Minister, Lalduhoma, a former IPS officer, convened
discussions with newly elected party members. The formation of the council of
ministers and portfolio distribution were key topics during the meeting.
Following internal party deliberations, Lalduhoma was elected as the ZPM Legislature Party leader, while K Sapdanga was chosen as the deputy leader.

In
the run-up to assuming office, Lalduhoma met Mizoram Governor Hari Babu
Kambhampati, officially staking his claim to form the government. Expressing
satisfaction over his party's majority win, he emphasized the significance of
forging robust connections with the Union government.
The
recent assembly polls saw ZPM clinch victory with 27 seats, ousting the
incumbent Mizo National Front (MNF). The BJP secured two seats, while the
Congress secured just one in the 40-member assembly.
Notably,
voter turnout during the November 7 polls surpassed 82 percent, reflecting
significant public engagement in the democratic process.
This imminent change in leadership marks a crucial moment for Mizoram's political landscape as ZPM's Lalduhoma prepares to take the helm as Chief Minister.
