The Phase 2 Voter Turnout For General Election Saw A Downward Trend Compared To The 2019 Elections

Phase 2 of India's general election saw a 63.50% voter turnout, lower than 2019's 68%. Tripura recorded the highest at 79.46%, while Uttar Pradesh was lowest at 54.85%. Polling was largely peaceful across the 12 states and 1 UT.
Voters in 12 states and a union territory today constituted in the second phase of India elections. The preliminary voter turnout is 63.49% reported which is lower than 65% observed during the Phase 1 last week and 68% in the second phase of the Indian elections in 2019.
Tripura, a north-eastern state, has recorded the highest voting percentage of 79.46%, it is immediately followed by Manipur with 77.32%. Nevertheless, Uttar Pradesh, the most densely populated state in India, saw a 7-percentage point drop from the same stations in 2019, with a turnout of only 54.85%.
The voting was conducted in 88 constituencies, of which the 20 seats in Kerala saw participated in by 70.21% voters. Wayanad, seat of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stood with a turnout of 72.70% in the just concluded 2019 polls.
Besides, states like Karnataka (14), Rajasthan (13), Maharashtra and UP with eight seats each, Madhya Pradesh (6), Assam and Bihar (5 each), Chhattisgarh and WB with three seats each and one MP from Manipur, Tripura and J&K were in polls.
On the election day, polling was largely peaceful, but a few voters had boycotted in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra; later they were convinced again. The Election Commission also grievances about the EVM malfunctioning from the East around 300 complaint Bengal.
Already, the two phases of the election have been completed, and the officials in election management are now preparing Saturdays for the rest four phases, which are to cover most parliamentary seats. The republic of India's 17th general election results will be declared on May 23rd of current year.
