India's Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a significant milestone by successfully conducting the flight trial of an Autonomous Flying Wing Technology Demonstrator. The trial took place at the Aeronautical Test Range in Chitradurga, Karnataka, showcasing the prowess of indigenous high-speed flying wing UAV technology.

The successful flight demonstration of this autonomous stealthy unmanned aerial vehicle stands as a testament to India's technological readiness and maturity in this domain. With this achievement, India has entered the exclusive league of nations that have mastered controls for the flying wing configuration, marking a notable stride in aerospace advancements.

Developed by DRDO's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), this high-speed flying wing UAV completed its maiden flight in July 2022. Subsequently, six flight trials were conducted in diverse developmental configurations using two in-house prototypes. These trials resulted in significant advancements in aerodynamics, control systems, real-time simulation, and a cutting-edge Ground Control Station.

Crafted with lightweight carbon prepreg composite material developed indigenously, the aircraft boasts a complex arrowhead wing platform. Additionally, it incorporates composite structures embedded with fiber interrogators for health monitoring, showcasing India's self-reliance in aerospace technology.

A standout capability demonstrated by this UAV is its autonomous landing sans the need for ground infrastructure or radars, facilitated by onboard sensor data fusion. This innovation allows take-off and landing from any runway with surveyed coordinates, using indigenous satellite-based augmentation for improved GPS navigation accuracy and integrity.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Armed Forces, and the industry for this achievement, emphasizing its role in strengthening India's armed forces. The Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO also congratulated the teams involved in this successful flight trial, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this technological feat.
