Tamil Nadu's Rehabilitation Post Cyclone Michaung: A Progress Update

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin convened a review meeting with ministers, to evaluate Cyclone Michaung's damage. The cyclone wreaked havoc, impacting Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and causing fatalities and destruction in Chennai and nearby areas. Stalin pledged a month's salary to aid relief and urged contributions while seeking substantial financial assistance from the Center.
Tamil
Nadu's Chief Minister, MK Stalin, organized a ministerial meeting to assess the
extensive damage caused by Cyclone Michaung. The cyclonic storm's rampage led
to fatalities and significant devastation in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Chennai and adjacent districts faced severe rainfall as the cyclone hovered
over the north coastal areas, resulting in tragic incidents.

Stalin's
proactive stance included his personal contribution of a month's salary to the
Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. He urged all lawmakers to join in this
relief effort. Additionally, he petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an
immediate interim relief fund of Rs 5,060 crores in the cyclone's aftermath.
The
Central Government, responding to the crisis, expedited the second installment
of the SDRF's contribution to Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Defence Minister
Rajnath Singh's visit to Tamil Nadu affirmed the Centre's commitment to aiding
the state, with Rs 450 crore released as the initial share to the SDRF.

Nadu's Chief Secretary outlined the ongoing relief and restoration initiatives,
detailing the deployment of 9,000 officials from other districts to assist
Chennai. Efforts to drain stormwater from low-lying regions are underway,
reflecting the government's proactive stance in the rehabilitation process
post-Cyclone Michaung.
