Sweden's path paved to NATO

Sweden's bid for NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) membership which was blocked by Turkey is now unblocked as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has agreed to back Sweden's NATO bid, says Jens Stoltenberg after his meeting with Swedish President Ulf Kristersson and Turkish President.

Turkey has been blocking Sweden's accession due to its disagreement with the country. But now NATO intends to admit Sweden to the alliance before this week's summit, which is set to be held in Lithuania by the grace of Turkey's agreement to forward Sweden's accession protocol to the Grand National Assembly ASAP & ensure ratification.

Turkey had said that Sweden allows members of Kurdish terror groups to operate in the country, due to which the country was opposing Sweden to be a NATO alliance.

Turkish president on the previous day i.e., 10th July, 2023 clearly stated his demand to join the EU which has been pending since decades. He mentioned that Brussels should now clear it's way first for the country's EU accession before proceeding to get Turkey's approval to Sweden's NATO membership bid.

After the opposition from Turkey, the nation has finally agreed to forward the accession of Sweden in NATO.
After the opposition from Turkey, the nation has finally agreed to forward the accession of Sweden in NATO.

On Tuesday after the address of NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg, American President Joe Biden stated he is looking forward, welcoming Sweden as the 32nd NATO alliance and thanked the NATO chief for his steadfast leadership.

The membership in the military alliance seems to be a barter with Turkey in order to pave Turkey's way in the EU. Although no statement has been addressed till now regarding the same.
