The two powerhouses on the Asian continent, South Korea and Japan, are in talks to settle a long-standing dispute. What started as a conquest in the early years of the 1900s, South Korea and Japan might find the key to a new era in 2023! South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin announced a new and improved plan to resolve Wartime Labor Dispute. Despite the SC orders from 2018 demanding two companies to pay compensation, the new plan to resolve Wartime Labor Dispute is more of a welcomed deal for the government of South Korea and Japan.

Foreign Minister Park Jin stated that the new plans would focus on raising "voluntary" donations by private organizations and paying to the South Korean foundation. He also hailed Japan as a pioneer of democracy and human rights worldwide.
“The government hopes to work with Japan, our closest neighbor, who shares the universal values of liberal democracies, market economies, the rule of law and human rights amid the increasingly severe situation on the Korean Peninsula and amid the current grave international situation,” said the foreign minister Park Jin.
The new and improved plan to resolve Wartime Labor Dispute is, more or less, favoring the Japanese regime and the companies. Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi greeted the idea and stated that "it will lay down the path for a renewed friendship between South Korea and Japan."
He also maintained that the wartime reparations owed by Japan were settled "completely and fairly" under the 1965 bilateral treaty between South Korea and Japan. Japan has also issued several apologies on different occasions to its neighbors.
By the late nineteenth century, Japan was one of the fastest-growing countries in the Asian continent. But, rapid industrialization was followed by a series of wars and conquests for Japan. In 1910, the small island country took over control of South Korea.
What followed was a chain of crimes and colonial rules imposed on the natives of the country that left the relationship between South Korea and Japan disdained to date.
However, the release of the statement on the plan to resolve Wartime Labor Dispute by Foreign Minister Park Jin could prove to be the antidote. Although the idea received a lot of criticism from the local people and the opposition in South Korea for favoring the Japanese government, things are looking to get settled for real this time.

Japan is also planning to lift bans on the export of several tech equipments to South Korea, which could also build the pillars for a flourishing relationship between South Korea and Japan. It will be, however, interesting to note the developments in the coming months.
