Sri Lanka Cricket has appointed Sanath Jayasuriya as a full-time 'Cricket Consultant' to revamp their strategies and performance. His responsibilities include overseeing player development, coaching programs, and staff supervision. This move follows recent disappointments, aiming to rejuvenate the team after a lackluster World Cup campaign.

Sri Lanka Cricket has welcomed Sanath Jayasuriya, the former skipper, as their new full-time 'Cricket Consultant' for a year-long tenure. His primary role involves supervising the operations at SLC's high-performance center in Khettarama. Additionally, Jayasuriya will focus on refining players' skill sets and monitoring coaching staff performance.

Jayasuriya's responsibilities extend to ensuring SLC's national programs attain a high level of professionalism. He'll closely monitor players and coaching staff, striving for excellence in their performances. His oversight encompasses the training and coaching necessities for all teams associated with the high-performance center.

This appointment marks Jayasuriya's second significant role within the SLC framework. Previously, he served as Sri Lanka's chief selector, albeit facing controversy over alleged biased support for a government-associated player during his tenure as a parliament member.

Notably, Jayasuriya's appointment follows another significant move by the board: the formation of a new selection committee, led by his former opening partner, Upul Tharanga. These changes come in the wake of Sri Lanka's disappointing World Cup campaign in India, culminating in a ninth-place finish and missing out on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 qualification.

This strategic overhaul within Sri Lanka Cricket, highlighted by Jayasuriya's consultancy and the revamped selection committee, aims to steer the team toward redemption after a lackluster tournament showing. The focus remains on rejuvenating the team's performance and strategies for future international competitions.
