Yoga guru Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna issued a prominent 'unconditional public apology' in newspapers after the Supreme Court criticized the lack of visibility of their previous apology in the Patanjali misleading ads case.
The co-founders of Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, published a 'no-holds-barred public apology' in newspapers across India on Wednesday after facing criticism from the SupremeCourt on Thursday regarding the lack of visibility of their previous apology.
The new apology, issued "in our individual capacity as well as on behalf of the company," stated in bold letters: "We hereby amply apologize for the violation or disregard of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India's direction/order."
It went on to say: "Our sincere apologies for the blunder made in publishing the adverts, and it is our pledge that such a mistake will never happen again. We commit ourselves to abide by all the rules and guidelines of the Hon'ble Court and shall endeavor to do the same with due diligence and the highest sincerity." The problem goes back to the contempt case in the Supreme Court concerning Patanjali's ads that had earlier made assertive remarks about its products' efficacy.
The court grilled Ramdev and Balkrishna on
Tuesday about the "unconditional apology" they had submitted earlier,
which was not prominently and clearly displayed. "Is it the same size of
advertisements that you normally give in newspapers?" asked the Bench
comprising Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah, also to file the
published apology on the record for the Court's consideration.

Senior lawyer Mukul Rohtagi, who was representing Ramdev and Balkrishna on behalf of the police, remarked that the previous apology had been published in 67 newspapers but was further questioned by the court about how exactly it appeared.
The Supreme Court has been informed of the case of the fresh apology, which should be heard on April 30th.
