Former Ahmedabad Mayor Dr Mukul Shah, aged 74, passed away due to a heart ailment. Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences, highlighting Shah's role in the city's development and dedication to quality education. Shah, a former municipal councilor and mayor, also served as pro-vice-chancellor of Gujarat University and chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University.

Former Ahmedabad Mayor Dr Mukul Shah, aged 74, passed away due to a heart ailment, leaving behind a legacy of civic and academic service. The news was confirmed by Gaurang Prajapati, a BJP leader in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), who mentioned that Shah had undergone angiography earlier in the day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sympathies and acknowledged Dr Mukul Shah's contributions to Ahmedabad's growth during his stint as mayor. PM Modi said, "I'm saddened by the death of Dr Mukul Shah. He will be recognized for his contributions to the city's development as mayor, as well as his efforts to promote quality education. Prayers for the departed soul and condolences to his family."

Dr. Mukul Shah was a municipal councilor in Ahmedabad from 1980 to 1987 before becoming mayor in 1991-92. His influence extended beyond politics, as he was appointed pro-vice-chancellor of Gujarat University in 2012 and 2014. Later, he became the chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Amarkantak.

Shah, a qualified MBBS and MD in obstetrics and gynecology, contributed significantly to the academic realm, serving as a registrar and professor at the AMC-run NHL Medical College. His passing at 8.30 pm at his residence marks the end of an era in Ahmedabad's political and academic circles.

The city mourns the loss of a leader dedicated to its progress and the cause of quality education. Dr Mukul Shah's demise is not only a setback for the political arena but also a poignant moment for the academic institutions he served.
