On Thursday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif declared the dissolution of the National Assembly, set to take place on August 9. The decision followed a meeting with parliamentary leaders during a dinner event, where they extensively discussed the country's political situation, as reported by The Express Tribune.


On August 9, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will formally advise the President for the dissolution of the National Assembly. As per constitutional provisions, the President must sign the advice within 48 hours to initiate the dissolution process. If the President doesn't sign, the Assembly will dissolve automatically, reported The Express Tribune.


Prime Minister Shehbaz will present the caretaker prime minister's name to the President after three days of opposition consultation. If no consensus is reached, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will nominate a candidate from the proposed names.

As reported by Dawn, he confirmed that upcoming elections would be based on the 2023 digital census.During a recorded interview on the Aaj News show 'Faisla Aap Ka,' aired on Tuesday, the Prime Minister shared the information


Sharif mentioned a meeting of the Council of Common Interest (CCI) responsible for approving census results. He added that the census results would be presented to the CCI once finalized. According to Dawn, Sharif's statement contradicts his ministers' previous claims that the upcoming election would be based on the 2017 census.

During a Geo News program interview, he mentioned that the term of the National Assembly would conclude on August 12, and prior to that, the assembly would be dissolved with the input of the allied parties.


Sharif also stated that the decision regarding the caretaker Prime Minister would be made in consultation with the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly. Additionally, he would consult all the allied parties and Pakistan Muslim League (N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif before finalizing the decision.
