In a significant move, Congress has assigned veteran leader P Chidambaram the pivotal role of leading the manifesto committee for the impending 2024 general elections. This crucial decision emerged during a recent Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, marking a strategic step towards the impending electoral contest.

Chidambaram's appointment as Chairman underscores the party's intent to chart a comprehensive election manifesto. The committee, comprising 16 members, includes influential names such as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Another notable figure in this committee is Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh TS Singh Deo, appointed as the Convenor. The diverse panel also boasts former Union ministers Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, and Shashi Tharoor, along with other key leaders like former Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam and Gaurav Gogoi, the party's deputy leader in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, Praveen Chakravarty, the chief of the All India Professionals Congress, contributes to this strategic body.

The CWC meeting highlighted critical aspects of the upcoming electoral battle, acknowledging the need for a robust strategy. The discussion emphasized countering the ruling BJP, spotlighting issues encompassing social polarization, economic disparities, and the alleged assault on democratic values and constitutional freedoms by the current government.

Moreover, the Congress resolution underscored the party's determination to fortify the INDIA group against the BJP and its allies. This resolution encapsulated the collective resolve to confront the BJP, scrutinizing recent state election results and aligning strategies for the impending Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

Amidst these deliberations, the CWC expressed appreciation for ongoing preparations and endorsed steps to bolster the party's financial base through wider public participation. The focus remains steadfast on addressing economic inequalities, soaring commodity prices, and the pressing need to generate employment opportunities, all crucial aspects resonating with the electorate.

This crucial meeting follows recent political developments where the BJP secured victories in several states, ousting the Congress from power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh while retaining control in Madhya Pradesh. The Congress, in response, seems resolute in strategizing and mobilizing for the electoral showdown ahead.
