On Saturday, lightning claimed the lives of ten individuals and injured three others in six districts of Odisha, as confirmed by the state's Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), responsible for disaster management. 


The SRC reported one fatality in Angul district, two in Bolangir, one in Boudh, one in Jagatsinghpur, one in Dhenkanal, and four in Khordha. The three injured individuals hailed from the Khordha district, according to the SRC's statement.

The Special Relief Commissioner, responsible for disaster management in Odisha, confirmed the tragic loss of ten lives due to lightning strikes on Saturday across six districts. The fatalities included one in Angul, two in Bolangir, one in Boudh, one in Jagatsinghpur, one in Dhenkanal, and a devastating four in Khordha. Additionally, three individuals were injured in the Khordha district.


 SRC Odisha in a message on X, said, "Today (02.09.2023), 10 persons died & 3 persons injured in 6 districts due to lightning. Angul -01, Bolangir -02, Boudh- 01, Jagatsinghpur -01, Dhenkanal -01, and Khordha - 04 (and 03 injured)."

In May, a similar tragic incident occurred in Nayagarh district where three individuals, including a woman, lost their lives as a result of lightning strikes at various locations within the Saranakula police limits.
