Non-consensual deepfake porn dominates Google and Bing searches, alarming users and sparking a scandal. An NBC News analysis revealed explicit deepfake videos and manipulated images prominently featured in search results, even linking to popular deepfake websites. The scandal exposes a lack of search engine monitoring, prompting Google and Bing to actively work on enhancing protections. Bollywood stars also face viral deepfake videos, highlighting the urgent need to address deepfake technology misuse.

Non-consensual deepfake pornographic content has emerged prominently in the search results of two major search engines, Google and Microsoft's Bing, sparking widespread concern over the lack of effective monitoring. The issue revolves around explicit deepfake videos, digitally manipulated to falsely implicate individuals in explicit sexual activities without their consent. In a recent analysis conducted by NBC News, searches combining women's names with terms such as "deepfakes," along with broader phrases like "deepfake porn" or "fake nudes," have yielded distressing outcomes on popular search engines.

The study focused on 36 well-known female celebrities, utilizing a mix of their names and the term "deepfakes" in searches on Google and Bing. The unsettling discovery was that the top results for 34 and 35 of those queries on Google and Bing, respectively, prominently featured links to deepfake videos and non-consensual deepfake photos. Shockingly, over half of these top results directed users to a popular deepfake website or a competitor's platform, emphasizing the widespread nature of the issue.

Searches specifically for "fake nudes" on both search engines led to links promoting various applications and programs facilitating the creation and consumption of non-consensual deepfake pornography. On Google, these links were notably present among the first six results. Bing's search for "fake nudes" also yielded results displaying non-consensual deepfake websites and tools.

Of particular concern is the ease with which users can access and create such explicit content before any news reports can highlight the harmful nature of non-consensual deepfakes. While Google and Bing provide mechanisms for content removal through online forms, the incident has underscored the apparent lack of regular monitoring by these search engines. Both companies have expressed understanding and are actively working to enhance protections, acknowledging the distress caused by such content.

This scandal extends beyond generic searches, as deepfake videos featuring Bollywood stars like Rashmika Mandanna, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif have gone viral, further emphasizing the urgency of addressing the misuse of deepfake technology.
