In a significant announcement, New Zealand has unveiled its 13-member squad for the imminent T20I series against Bangladesh. Leading the squad will be the esteemed Kane Williamson, who returns to captaincy after a brief hiatus. This series marks the final T20I challenge for New Zealand this year and is set to unfold in a three-match confrontation on home turf against Bangladesh.

The series is scheduled to kick off at McLean Park in Napier on December 27, showcasing the return of skipper Williamson, allrounder James Neesham, and the introduction of right-arm medium pacer Ben Sears. Notably, these three players were absent from New Zealand's previous T20I assignment against England in England, which led up to the ODI World Cup 2023.

However, unfortunate injury concerns have sidelined four key players from the squad selection process. The absence of tearaway pacer Lockie Ferguson and spin-bowling allrounder Michael Bracewell, both grappling with Achilles injuries, alongside Matt Henry’s hamstring issue and Henry Shipley's recovery from a back injury, leaves a void in the team's lineup.

Garry Stead, New Zealand's head coach, expressed confidence in the squad's planning for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. He commended Tim Seifert for his stellar comeback and securing a spot at the top order. Stead highlighted the team's diverse T20 experience across various conditions throughout the year.

Stead affirmed, "With a World Cup in the middle of next year, we‘re well into our planning." He emphasized the potential for new players like Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra to join the mix, as witnessed in the One Day World Cup Squad this year.

The squad, featuring talents like Finn Allen, Kyle Jamieson, and Tim Southee, underlines New Zealand's preparation and aspirations as they gear up for this crucial T20I series against Bangladesh.
