Mizoram, November 10, 2023 - In an unusual turn of events, the Election Commission has ordered a re-polling at the 13-Muallungthu polling station in the 20-Aizawl South III Assembly constituency. This decision comes after a technical glitch disrupted the polling process during the recent Assembly elections in Mizoram.

The original Assembly election in Mizoram took place on November 7, boasting a commendable voter turnout of 77 per cent. However, concerns arose due to a critical malfunction at the Muallungthu polling station, which necessitated the re-polling.

According to election officials, the glitch occurred as voting personnel failed to clear the mock poll ahead of the main election day. To ensure fairness and accuracy, the Election Commission has acted swiftly to address the issue.

The re-election is scheduled for Friday, with polling hours set between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Muallungthu polling station. This decision aims to guarantee that every eligible voter can exercise their democratic right without any hindrances.

A total of 1,084 electors are eligible to cast their votes in this specific polling station. Among them, 548 are female voters, highlighting the importance of women's participation in the electoral process.

While the initial voter turnout was 77 per cent, the percentage is expected to rise as final reports are pending from remote and far-flung districts. This re-polling underscores the commitment of the Election Commission to ensure the integrity and transparency of the electoral process, maintaining public trust in the democratic system.
