In a thrilling ODI match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 7, Glenn Maxwell delivered one of the greatest innings in the history of one-day international (ODI) cricket, breaking a 40-year-old world record previously held by India's cricket legend Kapil Dev. Facing a seemingly impossible situation with his team struggling at 91/7 while chasing 292 runs, Maxwell's extraordinary performance was nothing short of legendary.

Maxwell's innings, an unbeaten 201* out of the 293 runs Australia scored in the run-chase, will be etched in the annals of cricket history. The crowd at Wankhede witnessed a masterclass as Maxwell's brilliant strokeplay and determination helped his team achieve an unlikely victory with over three overs to spare.

Kapil Dev's record-breaking knock of an unbeaten 175 during the 1983 World Cup had stood unchallenged for four decades. In that historic match, India had been reeling at 17/5 and 78/7 against Zimbabwe before Kapil Dev's incredible performance turned the tide, eventually resulting in India posting 266 runs in 60 overs. Maxwell's unbeaten 201* came under similar pressure as he walked into bat at number six with his team at 49/4 in the ninth over.

Maxwell's journey to break Kapil Dev's record was not without its share of drama. He narrowly escaped a hat-trick ball from Azmatullah Omarzai, with the ball just missing the edge of his bat. Additionally, Maxwell benefited from a crucial DRS review that overturned an LBW decision when he was at 27. Later in the innings, he was dropped by Mujeeb Ur Rahman at 33. These fortunate moments played a significant role in Australia's remarkable comeback, leaving Afghanistan, who had looked poised for a big win, heartbroken.

In a match filled with ups and downs, Glenn Maxwell's incredible innings will be remembered as one of the most remarkable performances in ODI cricket, breaking a record for four decades and making Mumbai's cricket fans proud.
