Maharashtra: Monsoon Legislature Begins on Monday

The Monsoon session of Maharashtra legislature is set to begin from Monday, 17th July,2023 in Mumbai. The session would be held at Vidhan Bhavan Complex, Nariman Point. The three week long session would be from 17th July, 2023 till 4th August, 2023.
Amidst the political disturbances, this will be the first session following the decision of Ajit Pawar, a prominent NCP leader and former Leader of Opposition, to separate from his uncle Sharad Pawar, who is also the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Ajit Pawar has joined forces with the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance along with a group of NCP MLAs.
Bills and Ordinances at legislature:
1. Proposed bills:
24 bills were proposed out of which 10 have received approval from the Cabinet and 14 are yet to be approved by the cabinet and would be tabled following that.
One bill that has been approved by the Legislative Council will be presented in the Assembly. Additionally, a bill that is currently under review by the joint committee of both houses is also anticipated to be presented.
2. Ordinances:
Six ordinances currently in effect that will also be presented for the legislature's approval during the monsoon session.
On Saturday, eve of the State Assembly session, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis alongside CM Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar held a joint press conference and stated that the increased strength of the alliance in the House, the government would not abuse its current position in the State Assembly.
Devendra Fadanvis also stated that the Eknath Shinde government will discuss all the issues at the monsoon session. All The issues raised by opposition in welfare of the citizens would be addressed.
According to him, they have the support of more than 210 MLAs in the current government. He further added that if they are doing something wrong, the Opposition must question them and raise questions for the welfare of the people. CM Shinde also expressed that it is the duty of the opposition to praise the government when it does something right.
