Madhya Pradesh Police Detain Congress Media Cell’s Leader:-
It is pertinent that Sangeeta along with other congress workers had planned to show black flags to Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Bhopal. This strategy failed as the Bhopal Police interfered in the matter before any action was taken by Congress officials.
Bhopal police, on Saturday morning, detained Congress Media Cell Vice President Sangeeta Sharma from her residence for seven hours, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city, allegedly without giving any reason. Sangeeta Sharma alleged that force was used to make her sit in the police car and she was forcefully taken to Misrod police station and her crime for her detention was not told.
According to Sangeeta she was denied her right to talk to someone post her arrest. not allowed to speak to anyone and her mobile phone was taken away, The Congress media cell functionaries, who were sent by state unit chief Kamal Nath, were denied to meet her, she claimed.
According to Sangeeta Sharma when she asked about why was she being detained ? She was told that the order for her detention has been given by higher authorities. However, on the other hand Rasbihari Sharma, the station in-charge of Misrod police station told PTI Sharma to detain her after getting information that she may stage a protest during the PM Modi’s visit. The officials have stated that the detention of Sangeeta Sharma was ended as the visit of Prime Minister Modi was over and she was free to leave.
The arrest of Sharma has been met with mixed reactions from the political fraternity. The Congress party has condemned the arrest and called it a politically motivated move by the ruling government to silence its critics. They have demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter and have promised to support Sharma in her legal battle. According to the Former chief minister and state Congress president Kamal Nath this move was unconstitutional and he tweeted, “How Sangeeta Sharma, Vice President of Congress Media Department, was detained early in the morning, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stay in Bhopal, without giving any reason and kept her sitting in the police station, is completely unconstitutional. I request the chief minister that she be released immediately.”
On the other hand, the BJP has defended the arrest, stating that it is a result of a transparent investigation into corruption charges against Sharma. They have accused the Congress party of shielding corrupt leaders and have called for a thorough investigation into the alleged financial irregularities.
The Prime Minister Modi, during the day, attended the Combined Commanders’ Conference and later flagged off the Bhopal-Delhi Vande Bharat Express. The PM during his Bhopal visit was to participate in many other programs after the Vande Bharat event.
The arrest of a prominent political leader like Sharma highlights the need for transparency and accountability in public life. It is a reminder that those in positions of Power must be held accountable for their actions and that the law must be applied equally to all, regardless of their political affiliations.
