In an early morning tremor, Ladakh's Leh region was jolted by a 3.4 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The seismic event, recorded on the Richter scale, occurred at 5:39 am. Leh, the picturesque town nestled in the Himalayas, bore the brunt as the epicenter of the earthquake.

The National Centre for Seismology, often at the forefront of earthquake monitoring, shared details on social media platform X. In a post, they stated, "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.4, Occurred on 30-01-2024, 05:39:56 IST, Lat: 35.27 & Long: 75.40, Depth: 5 Km, Region: Leh, Ladakh." The seismic activity's depth was reported to be 5 kilometers.

It is noteworthy that the earthquake's impact was primarily centered around Leh, with the town being directly above the epicenter. The depth of the seismic event, 5 kilometers below the surface, might have contributed to the noticeable shake felt in the region.

Residents of Leh and surrounding areas experienced the tremors, causing a momentary disruption. However, as of now, there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

The earthquake serves as a reminder of the region's susceptibility to seismic activity due to its geographical location. Ladakh, surrounded by the Himalayas, is prone to earthquakes, and preparedness measures are crucial for minimizing potential risks.

In conclusion, the recent seismic activity in Ladakh emphasizes the ongoing need for vigilance and preparedness in earthquake-prone regions, with Leh being at the forefront of such concerns. Authorities continue to assess the situation, ensuring the safety of residents in the aftermath of the early morning earthquake.
