Konkona Sen Sharma Acknowledges the Penetration of the Star System into the OTT Realm !

KonKona Sen

At the outset of their emergence in India, OTT platforms held the promise of revolutionizing storytelling, seemingly liberated from the grip of star power. Yet, as an upsurge of mainstream stars increasingly takes center stage in OTT ventures, the once-level playing field of streaming seems poised for transformation. The infiltration of the star system has become evident, a phenomenon that actor-director Konkona Sen Sharma readily concurs with.

Fresh from the resounding acclaim for her Lust Stories 2 segment "The Mirror," Konkona engaged in a dialogue with Film Companion, underscoring the pursuit of stars by content creators within the OTT domain. With her insight, she noted, "Beyond mere talent, financial backers are veering towards star power for their investments. I recognize the financial considerations involved, where the desire to mitigate risk often prompts the inclusion of stars. While several stars possess remarkable talent, there might be instances where the extent varies. In the realm of OTT as well, the trend is veering toward star-driven content."

In response to inquiries about the emergence of the star system within the OTT sphere, Konkona concurred and elaborated, stating, "Undoubtedly, there is an increasing inclination towards incorporating stars. From personal experience, both as an actor and a director, I can attest to the substantial pressure to enlist prominent names." While acknowledging the significance of star power, she also conceded that possessing celebrity status alone isn't sufficient without genuine talent. She emphasized the rarity of the ideal amalgamation of star power and talent, acknowledging it as an exceptional yet infrequent combination.

Thriving on the digital stage, a league of eminent Bollywood luminaries including Sushmita Sen, Shahid Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, Pankaj Tripathi, Madhuri Dixit, and Bobby Deol have established a notable presence.
