Janata Dal (Secular) is all set to join National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as former Prime Minister and party's chief HD Deve Gowda along with his son HD Kumaraswamy, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in Parliament on Thursday, claimed a report by India Today.

As per the report, the discussions primarily revolved around the potential alliance between JD(S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

'Furthermore, the leaders delved into the intricacies of seat-sharing for the general elections. A formal announcement regarding JD(S)'s entry into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is anticipated to occur shortly after a meeting with Prime Minister Modi on Friday,'' India Today quoted sources as saying.

"This evening there is a meeting, once we have the outcome of the meeting, tomorrow I will share everything openly with your Delhi correspondents," Kumaraswamy said while speaking before his departure for the national capital.

Kumaraswamy further stated that as of now, neither party has solidified any seat allocation plans.

"Neither have we thought about it (seats) so far, nor have they (BJP) proposed anything in this regard. When we discuss in the evening, we will discuss in detail about the current situation in all 28 (Lok Sabha) seats, what was the situation in the earlier election, and what is the situation after the 2023 Assembly polls," he added.

It is worth mentioning that these discussions come in the wake of statements by senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa, who had hinted at the possibility of an understanding with JD(S) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Under this potential arrangement, JD(S) would field candidates in four Lok Sabha seats out of Karnataka's total 28 constituencies. However, Yediyurappa clarified that a final decision had not been reached.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP dominated Karnataka, securing 25 seats. An independent candidate, backed by the BJP, also won one seat in Mandya.

In contrast, the Congress and JD(S) each managed to secure just one seat.
