The Indian Army is finalizing plans to introduce six Apache attack helicopters, bolstering defenses along the Pakistan border. These choppers, part of a strategic move, will be stationed at Jodhpur's military station, fortifying the western desert's security perimeters.

Scheduled for arrival between February and March, the initial deployment of these helicopters from the US to the Hindan air base aligns with contractual arrangements. Subsequently, the fleet will be stationed at Jodhpur, ensuring readiness for operational deployment, military sources disclosed to ANI.

Presently, the Indian Air Force operates 22 Apache helicopters along the western and northern borders. This impending Army induction will augment the joint inventory to a total of 28. Over 50 pilots and technicians have undergone rigorous training in the US, adhering to contractual obligations, and expediting the fleet's operational readiness.

Notably, these American attack helicopters were swiftly deployed in the eastern Ladakh sector amidst the tensions stemming from Chinese aggression in 2020. Functioning from forward bases, they've been pivotal in strengthening defense mechanisms.

Boeing, the original manufacturer, revealed the commencement of Apache Helicopter production for the Indian Army at their cutting-edge facility in Mesa, Arizona, in August last year. This production phase significantly leverages Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited's collaboration, specifically in manufacturing AH-64E fuselages at their advanced Hyderabad facility.

The integration of AH-64E's advanced technology and battle-proven performance is anticipated to elevate the Indian Army's operational effectiveness significantly. It stands to augment the nation's defensive capabilities, aligning with the ongoing efforts to fortify national security along the border regions.
