India has lodged a strong protest against China's apparent discrimination against three athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, who were barred from participating in the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

This marks the second instance in two months that these athletes have been prevented from competing in China.

The three women wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh were unable to download their travel documents from an official Chinese website, preventing them from joining their teammates in Hangzhou. However, the rest of the wushu squad, comprising a total of 10 players, faced no such issues and successfully traveled to Hangzhou.

The Indian government, in response to these actions, expressed its displeasure and condemned the "deliberate and selective obstruction" of its sportspersons.

External affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi emphasized that China's actions violated both the spirit of the Asian Games and the rules governing their conduct, which explicitly prohibit discrimination against competitors from member states.

“A strong protest has been lodged in New Delhi and Beijing against China’s deliberate and selective obstruction of some of our sportspersons,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

He further informed that the Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has cancelled his planned visit to China for the games as a mark of protest.

China's claim over Arunachal Pradesh as "south Tibet" has been a longstanding point of contention between the two nations. China recently released a map that included Arunachal Pradesh within its borders, a move rejected by India and several other countries.
