Illegal Temple Structure of Indore to Be Demolished: Bulldozers Reach The Spot

Recently, a stepwell roof of the Beleshwar Mahadev temple located in Indore had collapsed and this incident claimed the lives of 36 people. Many families have lost multiple members in this tragic occurrence which caused the authorities to initiate a probe into the part of the temple which broke off as it could not sustain the weight of the large crowd during Ram Navami.
The Collapsed Stepwell Roof: An Illegal Structure
Assessing authorities found this part of the temple to be an illegal structure built without prior permission from concerned State departments. The illegal temple structure of Indore is two centuries old and built with a thin layer of tiles and concrete.
Action Taken: Bulldozers for
Demolition
Consequent to the tragic accident, on 3rd April 2023,
bulldozers reached the spot to demolish the illegal temple structure of Indore.
Top officials from the police have also been deported with the duty of ensuring
that the demolition work is carried out urgently without disturbance as there
are chances of a religion-based violent outbreak.
Shivraj Shiv Chouhan has further ordered authorities to prepare a comprehensive list of old constructions similar to the illegal temple structure of Indore which collapsed and necessary action such as renovation will be taken regarding them. Pursuant to this order, the District Collector issued a notice that all stepwells which have dilapidated coverings will fall within the radar of ‘dangerous constructions’.
Relief Provided to Victims of
The Illegal Temple Structure of Indore
A relief amount of 5 lac rupees has been announced for those
families who have lost their members in the incident and an amount of Rs.
50,000 has been announced for those who have faced injuries due to the
incident.
