The recent weather upheaval in Tamil Nadu, specifically in Chennai and adjoining regions, has brought about significant rainfall, triggering alerts across 12 districts as cautioned by the Regional Meteorological Centre. Overnight showers inundated Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and surrounding areas, causing sudden flooding in various parts of the state. The early morning was marked by thunderous sounds and flashes of lightning, setting the tone for a day of substantial rainfall.

The Chennai RMC reported moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms in Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, and Cuddalore districts. Specific measurements of rainfall were detailed for certain areas, emphasizing the intensity of the ongoing downpour.

Deputy Director General S Balachandran from the RMC highlighted the likelihood of a low-pressure formation in the South Andaman Sea around November 26. There are forecasts suggesting its potential intensification into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 27, indicating a further escalation of the weather situation.

The alarming rainfall measurements and predictions have urged authorities to take proactive steps in safeguarding lives and property against the adverse impact of the ongoing rains.

The situation remains under close observation by meteorological experts and local authorities, who are actively monitoring and evaluating the evolving weather patterns to issue timely alerts and ensure necessary precautions are taken to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heavy rains.
